The receptionists are your link with all the members of the Health Care Team and all receive ongoing training with their duties. They arrange appointments, home visits, hospital transport and deal with a wide variety of clerical tasks, but are not qualified to give medical advice. They may sometimes need to ask you questions about the nature of your illness in order to assist the doctor, for example, in deciding the order in which he visits patients, but any information you give will be treated in confidence.
If you are unable to contact any other member of the Primary Health Care Team the receptionists will take a message for you.
The computer staff are also trained receptionists but deal mainly with the input of computer data, including your registration details, repeat prescribing, cervical smears and breast screening. The Practice is registered under the Data Protection Act which strictly controls the use of computer information. We may, from time to time, take part in Medical Research Council projects and your records may be used in confidence. You have the right to refuse. |
